fangirling

For today I am a writer

Day off today, and I am absolutely thrilled about it. There are lots of writing-related projects and ideas in my head right now, too many to keep up with, but I’m doing my best. Here’s what I’m currently focusing on:

Wavesongs: Plotting, plotting, plotting. And after that I need to do research, and more plotting. I’m really looking forward to the actual writing, but I won’t get ahead of myself this time.

Entertaining the Sombrevilles: I need to do something with it, because it’s basically finished. Still pondering this.

Erotic short stories: I have a lot of these by now. What to do about them?

I’m totally absorbed by books and words right now, and I love it. Working on a story, or reading a great book, is the best feeling in the world.

On another note, I watched Crimson Peak recently and oh my God, Tom Hiddleston. ❤ I haven’t given him much thought before but boy, is he amazing. And handsome. Very handsome. Why aren’t there more movies like that? I’m so, so weak for anything gothic. I’d love to write gothic gay fiction stories because that combination would be simply divine.

That one het couple

Well, no – of course there are lots of het couples that I absolutely adore. But I usually don’t feel the same way about het couples that I do about gay couples – there’s just not the same amount of fangirling and general craziness.

But rules must always have exceptions, yes?

I have too many feels just looking at this picture. Too many feels ;_; And if it wasn’t for the fact that the rest of that show turned bad after the second season I would watch it over and over and over again.

International Women’s Day: Best Female Character?

Saw this poll and had a hard time choosing between so many great characters (not that any of my faves are on there, but I didn’t really expect them to be either). Characters are and always have been very important to me – creating huge verses with lots and lots of people is a weakness of mine, and I love thinking about the psychology of a character and his/her relationships with other people.

“Strong female characters” is a tiresome stereotype that I have a great dislike for – that’s the kind of women Steven Moffat creates, all sass and legs and random martial arts skills. A female character, or any character for that matter, isn’t automatically good or interesting just because she has a lot of lines and does cool things. On the contrary – the best Doctor Who companion ever, Donna, did a lot of cool stuff in her episodes but what made her great was how real and genuine she came across. She had a messy life, no real job, a mother who was always nagging her, and she could be rude and loud at times – while also being a truly warm and empathetic person. She’s a character a lot of people can probably relate to and I really wish there could have been more episodes with her and the Doctor.

Some other great female characters I love are Scarlett O’Hara (Gone with the Wind), Annie Wilkes (Misery), Jane Eyre, and of course Elsa (Frozen). Scarlett because she is amazing and dresses like a Southern goddess, Annie Wilkes because of her realness, Jane Eyre because she is strong in the good sense of the word, and Elsa – I can’t even describe my feelings for this character. ‘Love’ is too weak a word for it.

Do you have any favourite female characters?

Editing

This weekend I’m busy editing Entertaining the Sombrevilles, the novel I wrote for NaNoWriMo. Having so much fun with this story!

I also got around to watching the recent TV adaptation of Agatha Christie’s And then there were none. An excellent mini-series altogether and the casting is insanely good – I mean, Douglas Booth, Aidan Turner, Toby Stephens, Miranda Richardson and Sam Neill in the same production? I would have watched no matter what the story was. My friend had told me earlier that Douglas Booth’s character had a lot in common with the main character of Entertaining the Sombrevilles and she was more than right, oh my God. He’s such a great actor and I can’t wait to watch the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies movie, which has both Booth and Matt Smith in it. ^______^

I hope you’re all having a lovely weekend! ❤
