International Women’s Day: Best Female Character?

Saw this poll and had a hard time choosing between so many great characters (not that any of my faves are on there, but I didn’t really expect them to be either). Characters are and always have been very important to me – creating huge verses with lots and lots of people is a weakness of mine, and I love thinking about the psychology of a character and his/her relationships with other people.

“Strong female characters” is a tiresome stereotype that I have a great dislike for – that’s the kind of women Steven Moffat creates, all sass and legs and random martial arts skills. A female character, or any character for that matter, isn’t automatically good or interesting just because she has a lot of lines and does cool things. On the contrary – the best Doctor Who companion ever, Donna, did a lot of cool stuff in her episodes but what made her great was how real and genuine she came across. She had a messy life, no real job, a mother who was always nagging her, and she could be rude and loud at times – while also being a truly warm and empathetic person. She’s a character a lot of people can probably relate to and I really wish there could have been more episodes with her and the Doctor.

Some other great female characters I love are Scarlett O’Hara (Gone with the Wind), Annie Wilkes (Misery), Jane Eyre, and of course Elsa (Frozen). Scarlett because she is amazing and dresses like a Southern goddess, Annie Wilkes because of her realness, Jane Eyre because she is strong in the good sense of the word, and Elsa – I can’t even describe my feelings for this character. ‘Love’ is too weak a word for it.

Alltså gårdagens Doctor Who. Vet inte ens vad jag ska säga? Det är inte det att jag är förvånad (har nog varit besviken på de flesta avsnitten sedan säsong 5 tbh), men nivån blir liksom bara lägre och lägre. Och det är så tråkigt! Den här serien betyder så himla mycket för mig och då är det enormt trist när vartenda nytt avsnitt bara blir ännu ett antiklimax. Kommer såklart att fortsätta titta (och hoppas på den där vändningen som ju ändå måste komma snart), men det blir typ 5% fangirlande och 95% irritation. Sorgligt!

So, yesterday’s Doctor Who. I don’t even know what to say. I’m not surprised (I think I’ve been disappointed by most episodes ever since season 5 ended, tbh), but the show just keeps getting worse. And it’s so depressing! This show means so much to me so it’s such a let-down when every new episode is just another anticlimax. Of course I’ll keep watching (and hoping for that change, which is bound to come soon), but right now watching Doctor Who is like 5% fangirling and 95% annoyance. Which is just sad.

Det är en bra dag idag. En väldigt, väldigt bra idag. Jag tyckte visserligen att förra säsongen var rätt svajig och längtar IHJÄL mig till den dagen då Moffat äntligen lämnar över till någon annan, men Doctor Who är ändå alltid Doctor Who. ❤

Today is a good day. A very, very good day. I did think the last series was pretty bad and I can’t wait for the day when Moffat FINALLY hands the show over to someone else, but Doctor Who is always Doctor Who. ❤

Clara, my Clara



Börjar dagen på bästa sätt med Doctor Who. ❤ Gud vilken hopplös Clara-fangirl jag är men hon är så bra och alltså kläderna i det här avsnittet, helt fantastiska. Jag har alltid haft sent 1700-tal som favoritepok men den viktorianska eran är inte långt efter. Skulle inte vilja leva då men folk kunde verkligen konsten att klä sig förr! En av många anledningar att uppskatta historisk romance. 😉
